Dear family,
We are pinned on the beach by fire from the Turks. We are sitting ducks, and should have scaled the heights when we arrived. Zach, you were lucky that the army board picked you were lying about your age. This is not the glorious short war we dreamed of. It will go on for many years.
Zach, you are needed on the family farm at Te Kura. Our family goals of service, sacrifice and sportsmanship need to survive. I am willing to make the sacrifice in the war, but you need to keep our family name alive. I hope this letter gets past the censor's razor.
